Day 7

one week down and I feel great!

Today I’m gonna go sweat some of the water weight out from all the crap I ate yesterday.

I’m going to hit up a Bikram yoga class

If you don’t now Bikram yoga is “hot” yoga or what I like to call 90 minutes of hell…

BikramYoga

For 90 minutes, I’m gonna sit in a 100 degree room and pretend to be flexible. I’m gonna put my self in ridiculous positions and most likely make a fool of myself, but you know what?

I will feel great when I’m done, and it will help me with my Olympic weightlifting as well as help me feel better overall ;-)

Then when I’m done I will take a shower, go to lunch with my wife, then come home and prep my meals for the wee to come.

What are you dong today to increase your fitness, health, or appearance?

Day 6 – JZ’s 30 days of fitness

Saturday Day 6 and by now you should now what that means….

“FREE EATING DAY”

YUMMY!!!

If you have been keeping up with my blog here, then I’m sure you now I’ve been looking forward to day 6 (my free eating day). Yup, as per the “Rapid Fat Loss Diet” guidelines I get to have a free eating day once a week!

So, I had my day all planned out…

For breakfast I was gonna get  a sausage egg and cheese on a bagel, then a piece of pizza and a sandwich for lunch followed by a nice meal at the cheesecake factory for dinner. Then If I had any room in my stomach left I would have snacks at the movies (we saw “Shutter Island”)

But, my day didn’t exactly happen that way. After talking to Sam about my menu for Saturday, she said I should just eat normal throughout the day, then have whatever I wanted at dinner…

She was right, going buck wild all day probably wasn’t the best idea, so here is what my day actually looked like;

Morning about 7:00am -

I had a 40 gram protein shake that also had some ‘good’ carbs

Pre workout 9:45 -

I had an ascential recovery shake

Lunch – 12:30

Chicken Teriyaki wth brown rice

Dinner – 5:30

Cheese Burger with bacon and blue cheese with french fires

Movie -

Small popcorn and a piece of godiva cheese cake ( I got a piece to go at the cheesecake factory)

cheesecake-godiva-a

Overall, not bad. Trust me – I could have done a lot worse ;-)

Now to negate some of these bad calories I too in today, I cranked out some nasty workout this morning.

I started out with some technical work  my snatch. If I’m gonna compete in a few weeks, I need to do this stuff.

Here is a quick clip of a few sets I did;

After that I cranked out some deads and inv. trx pushups for a set of 21, a set of 15, and a set of 9 each. This left my lungs burning for hours

here’s a clip of that;

Then I finished up with a total body circuit – this really smoked me and finished me off nice

Check it out;

Day 5 – JZ’s 30 Days of Fitness

Alright Day 5 down and I can’t wait for the end of day 6!

Why?

Because it’s my “FREE” Day when it comes to eating!!!

And as I have mentioned my wife and I are planning on Dinner and a movie, so tomorrows post should be fun.

Anyway, today was rough. Due to all the snow we got I was snowed in and when you are stuck inside on a huge snowy day all you seem to want to do is snack on things.

Well, I am happy to say I survived no cheating for me I stuck to my diet to the “T”

This morning I had an egg white omelet with fat free cheese and some ground turkey. Then a couple hours later I had a huge salad with ground turkey and fat free french dressing, and then for dinner I had Outback (if you know me at all, then you know Outback is a staple in me and Sammi’s (my wife’s life).

OUTBACK IS GOOOD ;-)

OUTBACK IS GOOOD ;-)

The only thing is I didn’t get my usual 18oz. NY Strip crowned with Blue cheese with a loaded baked potato, veggies and sauteed mushrooms (YUMMY).

Instead I got the grilled chicken with 2 sides of steamed broccoli…

Ok, being that I was home today from all the snow I had to resort to going to “Fat Camp” form bench and squat workout. Didn’t matter to me, I was amped up for it – I just didn’t realize I would get all the weird looks when I busted my “Flip” camera out in the middle of the gym

BACK TO FAT CAMP

BACK TO FAT CAMP

So, here is what my workout looked like…

Bench and squat followed by a 4 exercise circuit for 3 sets, then a light session of 15 minutes on the elliptical.

I super-setted my bench and squat and I was scheduled to do 3 sets of 5, but the last set was really to failure.

Here are my numbers

Bench – 200 x 5 / 230 x 5 / 260 x F ( I did 7)

Squat – 230 x 5 / 265 x 5 / 300 x F ( I did 10 )

Here is footage of my last set  (my failure set) of each

When I was done there I did the following circuit for 3 sets

Split Squat x 8 each

Lo-Split Cable push x 8

Chin up x 8

PB Mtn Climber x 8

then I did about 15 min. with Sammi on the elliptical

thats it – Day 5 is done, tomorrow is the day!

I’m gonna get a kickbutt workout in, then get some good eats in at dinner ;-)

Work Ethic 2/24

February 24, 2010 by LT
Filed under OPTC Updates

Do you have work ethic?

Do you have work ethic?

Here’s a small portion of a paper I wrote for my psychology class. My particular topic was ”MOTIVATION”.Why people get motivated and what strives people to want to become the best…Now maybe we’re not all striving to be the top dog but everyone has some sort of challenge they’d like to overcome. Maybe you can take something from this for yourself….

“Pain is temporary, glory lasts forever”!  When times get tough, it is often not enough to simply love the game, the average human mind is not strong enough to simply want to keep going when the lactic acid burns up and the body gets fatigued. There is a need for lots of different forms of motivation for an athlete to stay motivated through tough times. This can include various different and effective approaches. Visualization, companionship, goal setting  are all effective ways to stay motivated for the big day. Now what I’d like to know is how can this help or hinder the individual in life in general? Did their parents instill this type of behavior in them? Is there a cultural aspect that isn’t so easy to see?

Glory Lives Forever

Glory Lives Forever

The theory of “High Achievers” was developed by Henry Murray  and he stated that it was the desire to excel, especially in competition with others. All the different aspects and tools used to stay motivated goal setting, using visualization techniques, having built desire to succeed and using companions to help them achieve there daily regimen. Whatever is being done at the moment is vital to the overall success of the athletes immediate and eventual future. Everything matters, whether it’s having the discipline to go to bed early enough to get enough sleep for the day ahead, to finish off those harsh sprints in conditioning at full effort, or to not indulge in junk food. Competition is a matter of fixating ones abilities toward one goal. When an individual has to compete, their behaviors, their emotions, they all change because he or she is trying to attain the profits of winning. When a group of people enter competition, it is much like s a social contract, in that each person on the team sacrifices something of themselves in order to see the group survive. The individual and group dynamics that competition brings about inspire such immense feelings of group solidarity in humans and is a testament to the human’s ability to survive. Outside of sports, people compete for resources everyday, and they are going to continue to do that for a long time because the prize in real life, is life itself.

Day 3 – JZ’s 30 Days of Fitness

fat camp 1

No this isn’t really a book I want to talk about – haha…

What I want to go over today is my THIRD DAY of my “30 Day’s of Fitness” (like you couldn’t tell from the title of my post >:0

Anyway, obviously today is wrapping up my day 3 and everything is going good.

My workout for the day was at what I call “Fat Camp” or the local retro fitness by our place in ‘Dirty Jersey’. I call it Fat Camp because that’s what my wife  and I called it when she made me join a while back in her effort to get my fat @$$ back into shape ;-)

FAT CAMP

FAT CAMP

The good thing about going to fat camp is that I get to workout along side my wife (Optimal Girl), which I really enjoy, especially now while she is pregnant.

Anyway, I went through her light resistance workout with her (she calls it the wimpy girl workout) – which was a few 2 or 3 exercise circuits.

We then hit the “famous cardio deck”

I did an interval on the treadmill and it looked like this;

2 min walk into a jog

Sprint 90s walk 90s x 1

Sprint 60s walk 120s x 2

Sprint 30s walk 60s x 3

Sprint 15s walk 60s x 4

walk for 2 min as cool down

Not bad – Felt pretty good being that I haven’t really cranked it on a treadmill in a while

Now for my nutrition…

As part of the “Rapid Fat Loss Diet” I get to have a refeed day and a “FREE” day every week, and today was my refeed.

The Refeed is basically the same 1.25lbs of meat with veggies and I get to add some starch!

So here is how my daily eating plan went;

morning I had Steamed chicken with veggies and brown rice

Late morning/early afternoon I had a chicken wrap

Later this afternoon I had a chicken sandwhich from Penera bread

And Now for dinner I am having a Smoothy with;

40 grams protein, half a banana, half cup of strawberries, and a greek yogurt

Day 3 in the books and Day 4 rapidly approaching ;-)

See ya tomorrow

Day 2 – JZ’s 30 Days of Fitness

Day 1 in the books, and Day 2 is half way over for me ;-)

Workout is done (posted below for proof) and nutrition is – so far so good!

Check out the training vids, I hit some Split jerks, then finished up with a cool 3 exercises circuit where I did what I call a 5 rung ladder.

The ladder is where I do each exercise for one rep each, then 2 each and 3, and so on until I hit 5 reps of each exercise.

I did 2 full sets of that.

I will admit that I am pretty sore from my workout yesterday which is why i added in some basic yoga poses as part of my warm up. I know, I know (Jason does Yoga?)…

Not really but I have dabbled in the past and when I did do it for a very short lived period of time, I felt great! So what I’ll do is hit one or 2 poses a day as part of my warmup ;-)

Alright that’s all I got for ya today – Now Go check out my workout, then go break a sweat yourself

Day 1 – JZ’s 30 day’s of Fitness

SPV_0772

Today is the day My “30 days of fitness”  begins!

Starting today for the next 30 days I will commit to exercising and breaking a sweat every day. That’s right for the next 30 day I will do something to break a sweat and improve my overall appearance and health.

Additionally, I will commit to a very structured and regimented nutritional program called the rapid fat loss diet written by nutrition expert by Lyle McDonald.

Check the vid out below and listen to me talk about what it entails.

Now for the fun stuff…

As I mentioned in my previous post – Colleague and Optimal Performance Coach Lou Torres seems to think I’m full of you know what… So he is making it mandatory for me to post at least a portion of my work out every day for accountability sake ;-)

Thats My Accountability
Thats My Accountability

On-top of my personal 30 days of fitness challenge, I am also contemplating an Olympic Weightlifting competition on March 20th. This is not definite for me, but I will train for it and if the timing is right I will do it.  When I say “If timing is right”, I mean It will all depend on what I weigh ( I usually compete at 180-190 and right now I’m over 200 – ouch), how my clean & Jerk and Snatch numbers are, and How my wife is doing with her pregnancy (she is due late April).

Anyway below you will see some raw footage of my training session today. I did some cleans followed by some squats, finishing up with a killer circuit of some Bad a$$ work.

Until Tomorrow
